Skin Lesions (Warts, Cysts, Lipomas, & Moles) – Skin Growths – Cypress, Houston TX

ABOUT SKIN LESIONS

At Nikko Dermatology in Cypress, TX we offer skin growth and lesion examinations for patients presenting just one lesion or multiple growths on the body. Our board-certified Dermatologist, Dr. Anthony Nikko will evaluate your skin lesions (cysts, warts, and moles) with great care. Many patients want their growth removed for cosmetic reasons. You are in good hands with our dermatologist with many years of experience meticulously caring for his patient’s skin. Dr. Nikko will recommend excising the lesion to make sure it is not harmful to your health or cancerous. Not to worry, most skin lesions are harmless. He will present you with multiple ways to remove and treat the skin for lesions with surgical and nonsurgical techniques.

TYPES OF LESIONS

WARTS

Warts (verruca) are benign tumors caused by a viral infection in the top layer of the skin called Human Papilloma Virus (HPV), which can be spread person-to-person. These growths vary in size and color depending on the type of wart.

Common warts are skin-colored lesions that usually grow on the fingers and hands, especially in areas where the skin has been broken.

Flat warts are small, smooth warts seen on the face. It is more common for children to have a flat wart than an adult.

Foot warts are hard and sometimes painful lumps on the soles of the feet (near pressure points). You may see multiple black specks in the center of a foot wart.

CYSTS

Sebaceous cysts (epidermoid and pilar cysts) involve a closed, benign sac below the surface of the skin that is filled with a soft, cheesy-like material called sebum. Cysts can vary in size. When a cyst is enlarged and inflamed, this can become a very uncomfortable experience. You should be seen by your dermatologist immediately.

LIPOMA

Lipomas are a fatty tumor that appears as a soft lump. These are tender to touch with no other symptoms. These tumors do not require treatment unless they become uncomfortable, tender, or malignant (rare).

MOLES

Moles (nevi) are very common growths that develop mainly throughout childhood. These pigmented, flat or elevated bumps vary in size. Your moles may disappear with time. Irregular moles, however, may indicate a sign of melanoma or cancer. All moles should be examined by your dermatologist during yearly check-ups. If a change in size or color of any mole occurs, you should immediately schedule an appointment for evaluation.

HOW TO TREAT

There are many ways to treat a skin lesion or growth. At our dermatology practice, we offer cryosurgery (freezing), shaving, curettage (scraping), electrodessication (burning), laser treatments, and surgical removal when necessary. During your evaluation at our office, we will examine your skin to make the decision on the best way to remove the abnormality. If the growth is removed it will be sent off for analysis to determine whether it is malignant (cancerous) or benign (non-cancerous).
