Laser Skin Resurfacing
We always stress that the particular cosmetic procedure or procedures that may be appropriate in your case will be a function largely of two things: the condition of your face or body that you are trying to improve, and the specific goals you seek to attain. Over the years, the range of surgical and non-surgical techniques has increased to the point where your doctor can tailor the treatment to your specific needs.
When it comes to facial issues, there are a significant number of treatments that may be appropriate, depending upon your particular situation. For example, if facial symmetry is an issue, cosmetic fillers or implants may be the solution. Other procedures target specific areas of your face, such as your eyes. But some of the most sought after procedures are aimed at reducing or eliminating wrinkles. They include the facelift, dermabrasion, and others, among them laser skin resurfacing. Laser skin resurfacing can improve relatively minor facial flaws, including, among others:
Fine lines and wrinkles.
Skin that has been damaged by the sun.
Skin tone that is gray or yellowish.
Laser skin resurfacing utilizes beams of concentrated pulsating light aimed at the target areas. The procedure removes the outer layer of skin (epidermis), and stimulates the growth of collagen. The new skin that forms is firmer and smoother than before.
After the procedure is performed, you can expect some swelling and redness, as well as itching and some stinging in the target areas. The itching and stinging may last for a few days or less. About five days to a week after the procedure is performed, the skin will begin to peel. Healing will take from perhaps ten days to a few weeks, although this will depend upon the particular problem that was treated.
If you are concerned about the condition of your skin, whether it is due to the aging process, acne, sun damage, or other causes, then laser skin resurfacing may provide a solution. Talk to your doctor to learn whether the procedure is appropriate in your case.
